Peanut Butter & Jelly

I never thought something as simple as PB & J could cause so much suffering.

The story is pretty simple...

I served PB & J for lunch and Pey pey and Bear didn't want it.

I am extremely strong willed so when they began to throw fits about it....I dug in my heels.  (This was a battle I was going to win!)  The longer this went on, the worse it got.  They were crying and throwing themselves on the floor, screaming about how horrible peanut butter and jelly is. (one doesn't like peanut butter and the other doesn't like jelly)
This went on for a while and it was so ridiculous that I just sat on the couch and trying to control my laughter.  Some of Barron comments:
"You are the worst mom"
"If I had to fix you lunch I would make you eat turtle poop or worms"
"If you make me eat this, I will wipe snot in your eye"
"I am going to throw up"
"Can I eat the bread off of the jelly?"
"Mom, I don't love you anymore.....not really...but I am really mad at you"

Some Peyton comments:

"I can't eat it, it is making me throw up" (she hadn't taken a bite yet)
"Can I just eat the peanut butter?"
"If I had to cook for you I would fix you REALLY gross stuff"
"All the other moms are nice and you're not"

We are swimming today in our PE class.  I ended up telling them that if they didn't eat then they didn't swim.
In the end Pey sat down and ate her sandwich (it is a half sandwich just for the record).  Bear walked off and took his swim suit off and changed clothes.  He came out of his room dressed for PE.  He looked at me and said," I don't need to eat and I don't need to swim."
(GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR)

I wonder how many times we as adults are like that with instruction that God gives us.
Do we dig deep and make the choice to obey...
Or do we just walk away and say "forget it", it costs too much, or tastes too bad. All the while, missing the blessings and joy that comes from being obedient.
God has our best interest in mind.  He sits outside of time knowing that the things He may ask us to do are hard.  But also knowing that He has BIG plans for our lives if we will only step inline and obey.

UPDATE!!!  I left him to his daddy.  I headed to bible study.  Half way through my bible study time I received a text say ,"Guess who likes jelly?"   Daddy was successful!!!!!!

PS. It is 5 hours latter.....and He still hasn't eaten the sandwich.  The family is enjoying potpie for dinner.  But he will be enjoying .......you guessed it.......PB&J :-)
